フィンランドからの留学生 サンテリ君が証をしてくれました

2018年5月25日（金）、朝の礼拝で、フィンランドからの留学生 サンテリ君が証をしてくれました。

サンテリ君は日本語と英語、両方でお話しをしてくれました。
以下、サンテリ君のお話しの内容をご紹介します。

「堅信」というキリスト教に関係することばを知っていますか？英語ではconfirmationです。

今日はフィンランドで行われている「堅信」についてみなさんにお話ししてみたいと思います。

ほとんどのフィンランド人が15才になったら堅信学校へ行きます。

堅信学校の主な目的は洗礼を受けた若者が三位一体の神様を信じる気持ちを強めることです。その他にも仲間を愛するようになりなさいとか、祈りの中に生きなさいとか、教会の仲間と絆を深めなさいといったことを教える目的もあります。

フィンランドで堅信学校の終わりに行われる行事が、堅信キャンプです。一番、堅信を確かめるのに良い行事が堅信キャンプで、とても人気があります。堅信キャンプは一週間続きます。キャンプの間に、参加者はキリスト教について学び三位一体の神と絆を強めます。

キャンプは田舎で行われ田舎の良さが十分に活かされます。例えば、湖のそばで礼拝を持つことがあります。また、祭壇を野の花で飾ったりします。

堅信キャンプは単なる勉強会や礼拝会ではありません。係の人たちがYCVと呼ばれる堅信を終えた若いボランティアメンバーの助けを借りて楽しい競争やゲームを毎日企画します。加えて音楽の催しが一日に何回か行われます。堅信が終わったら、希望者はYCV（堅信を終えた若いボランティアメンバー）になることができます。

私は堅信キャンプの前、教会の仲間の集まりやキリスト教にあまり興味を持っていませんでした。しかし、キャンプのあいだに、心が開かれ、キリスト教に興味を持つことができるようになりました。

さらにキャンプで出会ったYCVはキャンプをとても楽しいものにしてくれそのことがきっかけで私もYCVになりたいと思うようになりました。YCVになることはとても面白そうで、私にぴったりだと思いました。YCVになることでキリスト教について以前以上に知ることができ地元の教会の仲間と友達になることができました。教会の仲間との交わりのおかげで私の人生はより豊かにより満足のいくものになりました。教会の仲間との接点を持てたのは神様のお導きだと思っています。

地元の教会とYCVで活動するようになってからは私の生活はいろんな点で変わってきました。まず、活動し始めてすぐ私は自分の生き方について考えるようになりました。聖書の教えに従った生き方ができているだろうか。これをやったら神様は喜んでくれるだろうか。神様の期待に十分応えられているだろうか。といったことを毎日自問します。

そして、自分のやっていること習慣などについてしっかりと振り返ります。

私は自分の行動を定期的に振り返り、道を外れないようにすれば自分を成長させることができると思います。

二つ目は、お祈りをするようになったことです。私は力が欲しいときや困った問題が発生したときに頭の中で静かにお祈りするようにしています。

最後に地元の教会の仲間といろいろな催しでボランティアをすることが好きになったことです。私が思うに、他の人を助けるのはいつも楽しく気持ちのいいことです。しかし、ボランティアの一番いい点はボランティアに特有な幸せな気持ちやいい雰囲気を他の人たちと共有できることだと思っています。

こういったことから、私の人生は神様に興味を持つようになって以来、ますます充実したものになっていると考えています。

おそらく神様について学んだことで一番大切なのは、神様はいつも見守ってくださっていて、一番必要なときに救いの手をさしのべてくれるということです。

最後になりますがわたしは堅信以来、夏が来ると毎年地元の教会の仲間と活動してきました。YCVとして３回活動し、宿泊当番として２回活動しました。

フィンランドに戻っても今年の夏にもう一度YCVの活動を行おうと考えています。

Have you ever heard of confirmation, when talking about Christianity? If you haven’t heard of it, I’m going to tell about it a bit and how confirmation is done in Finland.

Most of the Finns go to confirmation school that year, when they turn fifteen years old. The main goal of confirmation school is to strengthen the belief to the Trinitarian God, to which an adolescent has been taken in baptizing. Other goals are to teach to love a fellowman, live in a prayer and strengthen the relationship with congregation.

In Finland, the most popular ways to complete confirmation school is by going to a confirmation camp. Confirmation camp lasts one week. During the camp, confirmands are taught about Christianity and their bond to the Trinitarian God is strengthened. As the camp is always located at countryside, the surrounding environment is used to make the camp more unique and enjoyable; e.g. by holding worship outside by a lake and decorating the altar with flowers from the forest.

Confirmation camp isn’t just studying and sitting at worships. The staff members arrange amusing competitions and outdoor games with the help of Young Confirmed Volunteers, every day. In addition, musical moments (e.g. singing) are held few times a day.

After the confirmation, confirmands are able to become Young Confirmed Volunteers (YCV)^１ upon their own wish.

Before my own confirmation camp, I wasn’t deeply interested in the local congregation or even Christianity. However, during the camp, I was open minded and wasn’t afraid to become interested in Christianity. Also, Young Confirmed Volunteers of the camp were able to make the camp so enjoyable, that afterwards I desired to become one of the YCV too. Becoming YCV seemed to be lots of fun and exactly what I wanted to do. By becoming YCV, I gained more knowledge about Christianity and I got lots of friends from the local congregation. Interacting with congregation made my life more fruitful by giving more content to my life. I think it was a kind of calling from the God to keep in touch with congregation.

After becoming an active member of local congregation (and YCV), my life has been different from many ways when comparing to the life before it. Here are some examples:

Firstly, soon after becoming an active member, I started to think the way of my life, e.g. “Am I living the way which is being taught in the Bible?”, “If I did this, would God be proud of me?” and “Am I doing enough for God?”. Some questions I ask myself

every day to keep myself aware of my doings and habits. I think it is good to remind oneself about one’s own actions frequently to keep on track, what one can do to improve oneself.

Secondly, I started a habit of praying. I usually have a habit of praying silently in my head whenever I feel like I need power or I’m having difficulties with something.

Thirdly, I became interested in volunteering in many kinds of events in my local congregation. In my opinion, it’s always fun and exciting to help other people, but the best thing about volunteering is to share and spread the happiness and good atmosphere for other people.

Regarding to these example, I definitely think that my life became more enjoyable after becoming truly interested in God.

Maybe the most important thing that I have learned about God is that he is always looking after us and gives power when we need it best. Only thing that is required is belief in Him.

Lastly, ever since my own confirmation, I have worked at my local congregation every summer. I have been Young Confirmed Volunteer three times and night watch two times. Also, after returning to Finland, I will once again become YCV this summer.
