
School of International Languages and Cultures
Through an exchange program in which all students participate, the goal is to improve students' ability to communicate in foreign languages and to deepen international understanding by providing a broad base of cultural and literary knowledge.
■Two stages of exchange programs develop students' skills. We offer some economical support such as scholarships.
English first stage: 10 weeks in Australia
English second stage: 10 months in America or other English-speaking country
Chinese first stage: 1 year in China
Chinese second stage: 1 year in China
Korean first stage: 5 months in Korea
Korean second stage: 1 year in Korea
■Students gain high-level language ability and the ability to play active parts in the fields of education or business. Students can study to become English teachers in junior high and high schools; Korean and Chinese language teachers in high schools; specialists in children's English education; or interpreters, translators, or business associates.
Department of English Language and Literature
Students study English linguistics, as well as the culture and background of English-speaking countries. Students also can train to become translators and interpreters. Through volunteer opportunities in which students serve as English guides and tour guides, students can use and hone their English ability.

Major in English and American Literature
Students read various works of English and American literature, ranging from the classics to modern fantasy, to deepen their knowledge of historical and cultural backgrounds. Translation and interpretation classes are also offered.

Major in International Business
Teachers who have worked in international fields teach classes based on their own experiences. Students gain informational literacy required in business institutions such as trading companies, travel agencies, and hotels, while deepening their international understanding.

Major in Children's English Education
Students learn methodology and theory of language learning to become specialists in children's education, and can receive a license to teach English in elementary schools (J-SHINE License).

Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures
The classes are organized on a small scale and students learn Chinese teaching, East Asian culture, history and society. Foreign students can transfer the credits earned here to their home institution, and vice-versa, because of a newly established system of mutual degree authorization.

Students learn the Korean language and culture, develop a deep appreciation for its people and society, and are trained to play active roles as intermediaries between Japan and Korea in various fields such as business, education, and government administration.

Major in Japanese Language and Culture
This major is offered only to foreign students. Students study the Japanese language and culture from the beginning as if they were preparing for future employment in Japan or at a Japanese company or institution. It's possible for students to transfer outside this department to the Japanese Literature major or the English Language and Culture major.
